Interpretative Comments: Clinical Biochemistry Beyond the Numbers
Join us at the Southern Region meeting on 23rd June 2025, a day focusing on interpretation of clinical biochemistry results and their impact on patient care, and to celebrate the career of Dr Jacqueline Osypiw.
We’re delighted to welcome Jacqui Osypiw and Anne-Marie Kelly, from the UK NEQAS Interpretative Comments Scheme, run from Birmingham Quality, who will take us behind the scenes and share key insights from this nationally recognised and acclaimed scheme. Finlay MacKenzie, Director of Birmingham Quality will delve into the scheme’s rationale, mechanics and findings and together they will give us a full picture of its role in improving clinical interpretation.
Dr Emma Vaux will take us through the impact of biochemical test results on a major Renal Unit, with some interactive cases to bring patient care right into the forefront of laboratory medicine. Dr Gwen Wark will guide us through the intricacies of interpreting insulin and c-peptide results, with some real life cases where clinical details and patient’s history hold the key to understanding the results and final outcomes.
Dr Justine Loh will discuss the significance of biochemical test results in Emergency Medicine, supported by interactive cases that highlight how laboratory findings directly impact patient care.Mark Sleeman will offer a concise yet insightful introduction to the role of the Chief Clinical Information Officer—and why every Pathology Network should have one.
And to wrap up the day, we’ll raise a glass to celebrate Jacqui’s retirement with some informal drinks at the bar next door. A perfect end to a day of learning, networking, and celebration!
