Sustainability statement
Sustainability statement
The ACB’s commitment to environmental sustainability extends to our choice of venue for UKMedLab22. The Events@No6 building is designed to consider life-cycle carbon emissions, reducing both operational and embodied energy use.
The building has been designed by Bennetts Associates, the first and only architectural practice in the world to have approved science-based targets and be carbon neutral via the United Nations Climate Neutral Now framework.
Examples of venue design elements contributing to a positive environmental impact include:
- Reduced need for lighting power due to atrium and floor-to-ceiling heights
- LEDs use when lighting power is needed
- Improved air quality due to the air-change levels of the displacement ventilation
- A biodiverse green roof providing habitats for local birds and insects
In addition, Events@No6 commits to standards including:
- Upholding zero-to-landfill business status
- Utilising eco-friendly chemicals
- Purchasing paper products made from recycled materials and from sustainably managed forests
- Facilitating the use of public transport with all staff
Furthermore, Vacherin, the company catering at UKMedLab22, upholds high environmental standards by purchasing seasonal produce and working with small, independent suppliers. It has won many awards for its sustainable practices, including the Sustainable City Award (2015) and the Footprint Award (2017).
Vacherin’s achievements to date include:
- Cutting food waste by almost 25% in its five busiest cafés
- Becoming a zero-to-landfill organisation in 2016, eighteen months ahead of plan
- Recycling 11,210 kg of coffee waste in a year
