To mark sepsis awareness month this September, the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath), in partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific, is hosting a series of webinars exploring key aspects of sepsis diagnosis and management. Early recognition and management of suspected infection in the emergency department is key to good patient outcomes, appropriate antimicrobial use and efficient patient flow. This session looks at the latest evidence on in vitro diagnostics, including biomarkers, in this setting, bringing together experts in infectious disease, clinical microbiology and emergency medicine.

Sepsis and severe infection remain major challenges in intensive care, where timely diagnosis and treatment are essential. This session brings together experts in intensive care medicine and clinical microbiology to review current evidence, including findings from the NIHR-funded ADAPT Sepsis Trial, and to look at how diagnostic testing, biomarkers and microbiological investigation can be built into clinical pathways.
