Science Council statement on cuts to science funding
LabMed has put our name to a statement by the The Science Council raising concerns about recent changes to UK science funding, warning that reduced investment in research infrastructure and curiosity-driven science could impact the UK’s research capability, innovation and global standing.
The statement warns that reductions to funding for scientific infrastructure and curiosity-driven research could have significant long-term consequences for the UK's research capability, innovation, and international competitiveness. It calls on the Government to take a more transparent, evidence-based approach to future funding decisions, engage meaningfully with the scientific community before making major changes, and provide stable, long-term investment to protect the UK's research base and future scientific workforce.
The Science Council has also offered to work constructively with Government and UKRI to help ensure the UK maintains a strong, sustainable, and globally competitive science sector.
