Clinical Interpretation and Implementation of Microbiological Sequencing Techniques course

This free course has been launched on behalf of NHS England (formerly Health Education England). This is delivered by Great Ormond Street Hospital Learning Academy (GLA) and the Association for Clinical Biochemistry & Laboratory Medicine (ACB).

Enhancing understanding of molecular techniques to support clinical decision making is an essential factor in ensuring future pandemic preparedness and embedding diagnostic innovation. This course will provide you with an opportunity collaborate with your colleagues from across the NHS to addresses the question of:

How does Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), other molecular technologies and the management of generated data impact on patient pathways and outcomes in the management of infectious diseases?

The course provides the opportunity to develop an understanding of molecular microbiology assay outputs and to support the implementation of such techniques into clinical workflows.

Throughout your time on the course a multi-professional facility will support you to:

  • Develop an understanding of available molecular microbiological techniques in order to select appropriate methods to answer clinical queries.

  • Develop an understanding of how data analytics are used to review and inform patient pathways and the management of infectious diseases.

  • Enhance your knowledge of new novel molecular microbiology processes exploring their benefits and readiness for clinical use though the appraisal of current research.

This course is a professional development opportunity for members of staff working in an NHS healthcare or associated research setting with clinical exposure to microbiological test results and sequencing data. Prior course candidates have come from a wide range of background including:

  • Healthcare scientists
  • Microbiologist and virologists
  • Medical professionals
  • Public health professionals
  • Nursing professionals
  • Research students

The course has been accredited for CPD by the Royal College of Pathologists.

The one remaining date below is now fully booked however we are seeing if we can expand capacity and seek confirmation from existing registrants that they still plan to attend.

  • 20-24 November 2023 - in person at Goodenough College, London - 50 delegates - allocated 45 CPD credits

A waiting list for the above is available for course invitees following an expression of interest (form below) then confirmation that the individual interested meets the criteria for invitation to the course.

Please note we are also looking at ways to deliver much of the course content in a asynchronistic manner for those who have been unable to attend.

We are therefore still seeking registration of your interest in the Clinical Interpretation and Implementation of Microbiological Sequencing Techniques course by filling out the form below.
