LabMed Residential course for trainees 2026

LabMed Residential course for trainees 2026

This course will run from 12pm, Monday 19 January to 12pm, Wednesday 21 January 2025.

Designed specifically for early-career scientific and medical colleagues in Clinical Biochemistry — both those in formal training programmes and those in the initial years post-registration — the LabMed Residential course 2026 offers an essential grounding in specialist clinical topics and practical knowledge to support preparation for the FRCPath examinations and the first steps into autonomous clinical practice.

This three-day residential course is led by experienced clinicians and scientists and delivered through a mix of lectures, case discussions, and interactive workshops. Delegates will explore areas of biochemistry and service delivery where exposure may be limited during routine training, helping build confidence in real-world scenarios.

2 nights accommodation, all catering, and free on-site parking are all included. There is easy access to the Nottingham train and bus stations.

Main topics

  • Clinical biochemistry of lipids & management of lipid disorders

  • National screening programmes: trisomy, newborn & bowel cancer

  • Paediatric endocrinology and endocrine case discussions

  • Assay interference & investigation of infertility

  • Introduction to service delivery: business cases, tender specifications, and laboratory network considerations

Learning outcomes

By attending the course, you will:

  • Strengthen your applied knowledge in key clinical biochemistry topics

  • Build confidence in case evaluation and decision-making aligned with FRCPath expectations

  • Gain foundational insight into service delivery areas relevant to early-career development

  • Learn through interactive workshops and real-case scenarios led by subject-matter experts

This course is ideal for trainees preparing for FRCPath Part 1, those who have recently exited formal training programmes or who are preparing for their first promoted role within Clinical Biochemistry and those within training programmes who wish to boost their skills and knowledge.
