ACB statement on UK government funding for genomics research

The ACB very much welcomes the news released this month of £175 million funding boost to help develop better genomic services including diagnostics, screening and therapeutic options.

This work will be a collaborative effort between genomic research institutes, industry partners and the NHS, including the many healthcare professionals working in genomic and wider pathology services.

This research is vital to allow development of cutting-edge services that can detect disorders early and develop new treatments that better manage the conditions from an earlier stage.

Investment in early-stage diagnostics clearly reduces the future burden on healthcare and will lead to better patient outcomes and more efficient use of NHS services.
