Kevin Deans elected as LabMed President Elect

Kevin Deans has been elected President Elect of the Association for Laboratory Medicine. He will serve for one year as President Elect before taking up the Presidency at the AGM in June 2027.

Kevin is a Consultant Chemical Pathologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, where he has worked since 2010. His clinical interests span obesity, clinical nutrition, and inherited metabolic disorders.

The leadership experience he brings to the role includes serving as Service Clinical Director for Clinical Biochemistry in NHS Grampian, chairing the RCPath Clinical Biochemistry Panel of Examiners, and co-chairing the Local Organising Committee for the UK Congress on Obesity 2025. Within LabMed, Kevin has previously served as Secretary and Chair of the Scotland Region, and as a Director of the Association.

On his election, Kevin said:

"I approach this role with a deep awareness of the responsibility that will fall on me to continue the work of those who have gone before me. I share the Association's values of innovation, inclusivity and environmental sustainability, and I am passionate about increasing patient and public involvement in healthcare - an area I would like to see LabMed develop further.

Kevin Deans

"Our current strategic priorities reflect exactly the challenges and opportunities facing laboratory medicine right now. Supporting members to embrace digital tools and AI, ensuring best practice guidance reaches those who need it, raising the profile and influence of our clinical scientists, and championing a workforce that is properly developed and recognised. These are the areas where LabMed can make a real difference, and I am committed to driving progress across all of them."

We warmly congratulate Kevin on his election and look forward to working with him in the years ahead.
