New special collection: Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases
The Microbiology Society’s Journal of Medical Microbiology, in collaboration with the Association for Laboratory Medicine (LabMed), has published a new special collection on Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases.
Accurate diagnostic testing lies at the heart of effective patient care and public health. Despite technological progress, misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis remain challenges, underlining the need for continual improvement across every stage of the diagnostic pathway — from pre-analytical decisions to analytical technologies and post-analytical interpretation.
This new collection brings together insightful and impactful articles exploring advances in diagnostic methods, quality systems, and leadership in infection diagnostics. It highlights how novel tests and improved laboratory practices contribute to better patient outcomes, antimicrobial stewardship, and the global response to infectious disease threats.
Edited by Rob Shorten and Mathew Diggle, the collection showcases the breadth and importance of diagnostics in infection and public health — and aims to engage both specialists and non-specialists in understanding the critical role of laboratory medicine in detecting and managing infectious diseases.
