ACB President Bernie Croal speaks to BMJ about Direct-to-Consumer Testing

The President of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, Bernie Croal, contributed toward a BMJ investigation titled The rise of direct-to-consumer testing: is the NHS paying the price?

Croal says, “Most of the online [tests] will send the results to the patient with at best a sort of asterisk next to the ones that are abnormal, with advice to either pay some more money to get some sort of health professional to speak about it or go and see your own GP.

“That is coming in when primary care is so stretched, and it will just create a lot of work.”
