National member (environmental sustainability)
If you’ve ever thought “we should be doing more about sustainability in lab medicine” — this is your chance to actually shape it.
We’re looking for a National member of Council with a focus on environmental sustainability to help drive this agenda across LabMed. You’ll connect ideas, people and action — working with our Green champions, committees and staff team to turn ambition into real change.
This isn’t just about internal improvements (although those matter too). It’s also about influencing the wider profession and helping laboratory medicine play its part in a more sustainable healthcare system.
You’ll also sit on Council, meaning you’ll help shape LabMed’s overall direction and make sure members’ voices are heard where it counts.
What you’ll do
- Act as the link between the Green champions group and LabMed Council
- Support and help shape LabMed’s environmental sustainability strategy
- Champion sustainability across LabMed activities and decision-making
- Work with Green champions, committee chairs and staff to turn ideas into action
- Contribute to the Green champions group’s annual work plan
- Engage with external sustainability networks and bring back ideas and good practice
- Review and approve new member applications as part of the Admission Committee
- Play a full role as a member of Council, contributing to wider organisational decisions. Council members share responsibility for ensuring the organisation is run in line with its legal and governance requirements.
What You’ll Bring
- You are a LabMed membership
- A genuine interest in environmental sustainability (you don’t need to be a specialist)
- Curiosity, ideas, and a willingness to challenge how things are done
- A collaborative mindset — this role is all about working across groups
- An interest in influencing both practice and culture in laboratory medicine
- Alignment with LabMed’s values
What you'll get
- A real opportunity to shape LabMed’s sustainability agenda
- A platform to influence change across laboratory medicine, not just your own organisation
- Experience of working at Council level and contributing to strategic decisions
- The chance to connect with like-minded colleagues across the UK and beyond
- A meaningful role where your input genuinely makes a difference
The time commitment includes
- Council meetings: 2-hour online meeting, 3 times per year
- Green champions meetings: 1-hour online meeting, 4 times per year
- Occasional input into discussions with the LabMed team, Council and committees
