Editor-in-Chief, Annals of Clinical Biochemistry

The Association for Laboratory Medicine (LabMed) is seeking a new Editor-in-Chief (EiC) for Annals of Clinical Biochemistry, the official journal of LabMed, published by Sage Publishing.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the editorial direction of a respected journal within the laboratory medicine community, working with LabMed members, the Editorial Board and Sage Publishing to ensure the journal continues to thrive.
Purpose of the role
The Editor-in-Chief provides editorial leadership and strategic direction for Annals of Clinical Biochemistry, ensuring the journal maintains the highest standards of quality, integrity and publication ethics.
The role involves guiding the future development of the journal, supporting the editorial team and ensuring that published content reflects the needs and interests of the laboratory medicine community.
This role may be held by one Editor-in-Chief or jointly by two co-Editors-in-Chief, with responsibilities shared as agreed. The current Editors-in-Chief have successfully completed their term as co-Editors and would be happy to speak with interested applicants about their experience of working in this way.
What you'll do
You will:
- Provide overall editorial leadership and strategic direction for the journal
- Make final decisions on manuscript submissions, including acceptance, rejection and appeals
- Oversee a rigorous, fair and timely peer review process
- Lead and support the Editorial Board and Associate Editors
- Work with LabMed and Sage Publishing to develop the journal, promote submissions and increase engagement
- Ensure the journal follows best practice in publication ethics
- Act as an ambassador for Annals of Clinical Biochemistry within LabMed and the wider laboratory medicine community
What you'll bring
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a member of the Association for Laboratory Medicine
- Has post-registration experience in clinical biochemistry or a closely related laboratory medicine discipline
- Has experience as a member of a journal editorial board
- Has strong scientific writing, editing and communication skills
- Can make sound and timely decisions on complex editorial matters
- Is committed to publication ethics, equality, diversity and inclusion
Experience contributing to journal strategy or development, and an FRCPath or equivalent qualification, would be desirable.

The expected time commitment is approximately 4 hours per week, varying depending on submission volumes and editorial activity. The appointment is for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal by mutual agreement.
