Chair vacancy – LabMed Trainees Committee

The Trainees Committee is looking for a chair to lead our work representing trainees across LabMed's governance and activities. You'll shape how trainee views inform decisions on education, training and professional development, and represent trainees at Council. You’ll also oversee an annual in person meeting for trainees to learn and share best practice.

 

Who we're looking for

The committee needs a confident chair who can work collaboratively with the deputy chair and trainee representatives on other committees.

It suits a particular stage of training: this is a three-year term, so we're looking for someone who has moved past their first year on the Specialty Training Programme (STP) and seen the issues that come up later, but who isn't expecting to complete FRCPath in the next year or so, to give the Committee continuity through the term. You must be:

  • A LabMed member.
  • Currently in a clinical scientist or medical training post, working towards but not yet awarded FRCPath.
  • Actively engaged in LabMed activities or trainee representation.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership, communication and organisational skills, ideally from chairing or running a group.

Experience representing trainees on a regional or national committee, or planning training events, is a bonus but not required.

 

Time commitment

  • Two Trainees Committee meetings per year (April and October, online).

  • Two Education and Training Committee meetings per year (one in person, one online).

  • Two Biochemistry Education Group meetings per year (or devolved to the deputy Chair if the Chair is not a biochemist)

  • Participation in planning and oversight of the annual Trainees’ Day and contributions to the LabMed Training Day

 

Term of office

Three years. Please note if you expect to complete your training during the three year term you will stay in position until the term has completed but you won’t be eligible for re-election.
